The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

Just the right location.
Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.
The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.
Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara.
The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.

A bad experience considering the cost.
A bad experience considering the cost. They should have closed it down during the extensive building. We should have been told as soon as we arrived that it would be better to transfer to the Anatara. Never again
This is a small intimate guesthouse right on the edge of the ocean. You will feel like this is your home. The owner and manager went out of their way to assist in so many ways. We were in Kalutara on a film shoot and needed a driver and a translator -- the owner found great people for us! I also had an injury -- the manager, Lucky, and another guy carried me off the beach and arranged for an ambulance. They were there for us - above and beyond the norm -- and helped us in so many kind ways. I felt they really cared; like family.
Worst experience, it’s clearly not a 4 star hotel. No tissues in rooms, no water, fill from the water dispenser in hallway which is always empty and did not refill even on few requests.
No power outlet next to bedside. Old beds, uncomfortable mattresses. The hotel is outdated and needs a big renovation work.
I could judge on my entrance to lobby that it’s not what I booked for.
The third bed given to us was broken and 19th centuries, probably picked from rubbish (attaching picture for reference)
Staff was so friendly, on time tea, on time breakfast.
Very reasonable amount charged for the breakfast (SL) String Hoppers served with Coconut sambol + Dhal curry more than enough for a family with just one year old baby
Ocean view is phenomenal, night ocean sound and wind get you an adventures feeling.
A/C worked smoothly no sound, water pressure and hot water definitely worth 10/10 scores.
Very clean, and friendly place, classical Sri Lankan environment
This was a surprise trip arranged for my father on his birthday. I really appreciate the support of Turyaa staff especially Dumindu from the reception who massively helped me arranging the surprise cake for him. Lovely place and even I’ve been to the property more than 5 times and would love to pay a visit when I’m back in Sri Lanka.
The hosts were perfect and could not have done more for us. We had some trouble finding the place, but they came to meet us where we had stopped and guided us to the hotel. Rooms are spacious and so close to the beach. If you want a quiet, private place to enjoy the beach and local area, this place is for you.
the hotel is very nice and comfy. big pool, next to beach. Rooms are spacious and with good bathroom and balcony overseeing the garden, pool and sea. Super friendly and helpful staff!!Prasadi from reception, Ajit the Bar captain and Amita from restaurant were just amazing!! Definitely reccomend this hotel for stay.
That staff, that uncle was super friendly. Very good hospitality. Even though we are locals same way treated us the way treating foreigners. Just infornt sea.
If you travel by train this is good option for you. From Kalutara north railway station very close, walking distance.
Our stay at Avani hotel was quite enjoyable. Impressed by the exceptional staff service and gym facilities. The food was really good and we appreciated the unlimited water access. Additionally, the spa service was great and of course the beautiful sunsets from the beach.
Really nice, lovely, family style hotel. Got this tip from a friend and we were not disappointed!
Nice food, fantastic location at the beach, excellent staff.
Provided us with an excellent guide/driver for 5 day tour in Central Sri Lanka.
Buffet breakfast was amazing, excellent variety every day with lots of fresh juices and fresh fruits. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms were large and well supplied. Although bedroom lacked a comfy chair or sofa
The staff were very nice, the food was great, the place wad peaceful and was a great last destination before going to airport, it is a beach but still close to the airport!
I liked the private access to the beach and the cleanliness of the beach. Rooms were up to the standard too. Staff were also doing their best to support guests!
